Smile, nod nod.

When I was a freshman, I always see BJM students with active personality and their fancy clothes under the Journalism building. But the junior students are hardly found, if I met one, they will dress in uniform, look zombie-like and complaining about how the works are piling over their head. I never knew what had transformed them, until the day I enrolled for JM310 class.

I never heard about the infamous teacher of JM310 class before. Until the panic attack has hit me by the JM310 beginners in the Line chat application.

"What time are you guys going to class tomorrow?" , "What shirt are you planning to put on?" And more random questions.

They all were paranoid about tomorrow’s morning class. Unfortunately, I was in Australia and couldn't make it to the first week of the semester. As the semester slowly crept upon us, numbers of homework were assigned on the first day. I remembered that it was a week of a nightmare in Australia because I had homework from Thammasat University, Melbourne Academic School, fashion styling class and an evening work shift.

On the next Monday, I arrived at the class at 8.50 which by my clock is considered early. The moment I stepped into the class, I saw the professor Bruce Asavadon, and I was awed because the whole class was filled by the BJM junior students. The only time that I’ve ever see everyone attend class was the first week of our freshmen year; wearing the proper uniform, looking as innocent as ever and taking notes of every word that came out of the professor.

"No perfume, no late, and dress formally."

The whole class was going so fast that I could rarely follow. The presentation was going quicker than the flash.

One student entered the room.

“You are late, you will be marked as absent and will not get the point from your quiz" then he nodded and smiled. It wasn't a friendly smile. It was a smile of pleasure to see the dumbstruck and unsettling look on the students. The class went on, the lesson got intense, I then expected nothing from this class but his cruelty.

However, each week, not only my foolish skill of writing gets better but I can see something that other teachers wouldn’t usually do. He added a controversial and sensitive issue to the class, LGBT, and make us critically analyze it. It really opened my eyes and changed my perspective. A person would do anything to fix the social problems through media usage and improve people's way of life.

I then realized that I was wrong. I was paying attention to the wrong point, the same way as I see his smile in the wrong interpretation.

My tough-love teacher from elementary school used to say that "I don't expect my students to be a genius, famous or rich. All I want from them is to understand what I am trying to teach. And most importantly, they will not embarrass my teaching skill to their future teacher or employer." and instantly, I felt the same feelings towards her that I do to Mr. Bruce. One of those memories and lessons that stick vividly in your mind, even after the years go by.

The end of the class is nearly here. And each week I still see his nod and smile.

“So we will have a little party, you can cook and share it with you friends,” said Mr. Bruce. He nodded and smiled. It is the exact same smile as the first day I saw, still an unfriendly smile, but this time something changed, what was present through his eyes was the sincerity and integrity of wanting his students to be decent human beings.

He is not the ‘Cruella de Vil’ I imagined him to be. He is just a human who has his own approach of teaching and implementation of rules.

Besides that memorable smile and nod of his, the large workload, the hours of classroom discipline and the austere manner of Mr. Bruce at first glance may seem like a student's worst nightmare. All the late nights of staying up and struggle to write and submit all the assignments on time. There is no doubt that practice makes perfect though. Studying journalism, it is possible to say that editorial and article writing is a core fundamental because as the media, you have the voice to convey and message and the choice to make something meaningful, but if you can’t write, then what do you voice do you even have at all? All the assignments pay off, all the mistakes have allowed me to make room for development.

If you read between the lines you’ll understand that Mr. Bruce doesn’t attempt to be your typical lecturer, he is more than that. He embodies his own teaching philosophy, a memorable one I must say. He is a teacher. I’ve learned that everyone can have the knowledge, everyone can be good at something, but not everyone can teach. The word teacher is defined as, “a person who teaches.” Therefore, to teach in this sense could be to teach academically or anything really, but he taught us one of the most important lessons, the lesson of how to provide us with the skills to help us achieve our goals, opening our eyes to societal issues and realizing that there is so much happening around us, therefore we must take on our responsibility as a global citizen.  As I once heard somewhere that teaching creates all other professions, I now truly understand this.

self-portrait

The clean, white background. It gives the feeling of clean slate, a fresh canvas to bulid myself around.

The staircase conveys ambition and working hard to improve and elevate myself one step at a time, slowly but surely.

The black garments represent my timeless and unconditional love for fashion and creativity, black is a shade that withstands through fashion no matter the era.

The text on my shirt ‘fucking hot’ basically says it, I hate hot weather. Although, i try to keep to myself and refrain from cursing, if the weather is hot, I will make my point. This shows that i’m not afraid to speak my mind and stand up for my own ideas if it is something I confidentally believe in.

The fire on my shoes represents, passion and the urge to keep myself active, mentally and physically.

Sunglasses are my staple item, no matter the situation, no matter the weather forecast. To me, my sunglasses complete my outfit and give me that extra boost of confidence I need to start my day.

The hologram, replacing the water and myself, depicts the fluidy and dreamy new dimension of how I, as an individual feel that nothing is permament. Thoughts and indivudality is always changing depending on influences from the things around us, like the way a hologram looks different from every angle and how it changes in the light. It’s something interesting and alough always evolving, the main hues still remain. It’s bold and fearsome. Even if you hate it or love it, it is nonetheless memorable.

A Week Camping just for a SNEAKER?

This trend beginning when Kanye West, the famous rapper, sign a contact and design his own design pair of sneaker. His first Yeezy debuted was with Nike, but with the conflicts between these two public figures **Drama Alert** so they are likely to rip the contracts apart and he finally end up with another huge sportswear company, Adidas, and that was the beginning of hierarchically throning Yeezy.

With the help of social media storming into one of this topic interest, the number of sneaker lover and resell persons are gathering together in front of the Adidas store before the day of launching new colorways of the sneakers.

This would not be a strange phenomenon if it has not extended into three days or a week just to lining up for pair of sneaker. The cause of this internet breakdown disaster is from the social media on the hype beaster, people who make any items to be such rare, who setting such this trend that having Yeezy in your procession means that you are owning the coolest piece in centuries. The report said that at the beginning of the launching, the camping was just one day before their chance to be one of the lucky customer. But in recent launching, people were camping a week or more just to win a pair of the sneaker.

Many people are questioning what cause it so much traffic of streetwear people are waiting for this, and sometimes people in the line does not seem to be involved in fashion industry at all. One of the main reasons it has received tremendous attention is because of its value, not just it is cool or good design. It is when demand is rising beyond the supply and the quantity of the products is limited, so it is the opportunity for those who are in demand to sell the product to a group for people more of that demand.

The original-store price is around $155 - $200, after only an hour of all-store sold out, the instant resell price on eBay will maximise increasingly to $3,000 for small size and $500 - $1000 is the average resell price. Thus, that is the main idea when the value of the product heightens up right after the purchase, and there are people who are focusing on the benefit of selling for seeking for occasional income as well.

With the absolute power of social media and celebrity power, people will see it as “must-have” item so that they can call themselves as important. People in today's world are trying their best to get the attention from people around them and to establish such ego and status, to embellish themselves with some investments would worth what was paying.

The social media will injecting the kind of thought that being cool in 2016 is to own this pair of shoes, streetwear is trending and lastly, who doesn't want to be cool? This answered all questions and it worked the same way as the Birkin in the past 5 years ago when the buyer should be in the "waiting list" at least 3 years for a hand bag, or even the Sex And The City's Carrie Bradshaw's Manolo Blahnik Mary Jane shoes which fashion people claimed these heels as a shoes myth. There are so much more to satisfy the thirst of human's desire.

For those who are denying of the phenomenon, and believe this all is such false information, well, it is your chance to prove it yourself at Carnival Store Thailand and Adidas Store at Siam Center on this 6th June 2016, we do not know yet what colorway it will launch, but I am sure that hundred of people will be awaiting.

The Rich Kids of Instagram. Hyperreality?

“ In semiotics and postmodernism, hyperreality is an inability of consciousness to distinguish reality from a simulation of reality, especially in technologically advanced postmodern societies.”

The technological advances have been developed through months and years. New change in technology is occurring every minute. With all the help of advanced devices and the world of new generation, social media spread its power tremendously.

Some people use the media in a good use, and some are in a bad way. However, it is on our decision what we choose to do and to have.

The Rich Kids of Instagram is a social platform based on Instagram, where posting luxurious picture of spoiled teenage kids in their everyday life.

Few on them earned rewards by their hard work, but mostly are come from wealthy parents parents, and they use it unthinkingly.

It is a general idea for wealthy parents to provide a kid any money but it turns out to be not for any teenagers who are willing to commit this behaviour.

This type of social media treats the society drawbacks more than the benefits.

It is strange when 18 to 25 earn expensive supercar from Lamborghini to Rolls-Royce. Sharing fine champagne with dogs or bathing in something thousands dollars champagne. All these behaviors are crazy, people are able to distinguish the simulation from the reality, still, cherish is found within the comments of the pictures rather than realization messages.

However, we might only see the side of the spending captures, but a lot of those bills can be paid by their ass-off work and does not being exposed online. The concentration of our mind must go for the reality, rather than the imagination others create.

One of the very obvious example is when the people start to posting (pretending) as they have good life, over-head pile of millions, exaggeratedly, which is a so-called hyper reality.

In Thailand, the news of dear son/daughter suicide threatening the parents for a new phone is happening incessantly. People are judgmental in others' status and facility on social media more than the reality, as many create a new good life on social media so they can attract more people to make a perfect acquaintance. The pressure of finding more income to satisfy their children's desire thirst to able to define social value is on the parents.

In my humble opinion, our consideration is excessively important. If we wan to follow the steps others are making, make sure it will not suffer any of the economical status.
